🔗 How to Point a Domain to Another Website or Service
If you registered your domain with TK Internet Marketing but host your website elsewhere (like Squarespace, Shopify, or another web provider), you can easily point your domain to that external service by updating your DNS records or nameservers.
Follow the steps below to connect your domain without disrupting email or hosting services.
🧠 Understanding Domain Pointing
There are two main ways to connect your domain to another provider:
-
Nameserver Update – Best if the external service manages all DNS records (common for Shopify, Wix, Squarespace, etc.).
-
DNS Record Update – Best if you want to keep DNS hosted here but only change the website’s destination (common for web hosts or marketing landing pages).
💡 TK Internet Marketing can help you determine which option is best for your setup.
🔐 Step 1: Log In to Your Client Area
-
Go to https://clients.tkinternetmarketing.com/clientarea.php.
-
Enter your email address and password, then click Login.
🧭 Step 2: Open Your Domain Settings
-
From the top navigation menu, click Domains → My Domains.
-
Locate the domain you want to point.
-
Click Manage Domain to open its settings.
⚙️ Step 3: Option A — Update Nameservers (External Control)
If your new provider gave you nameservers (e.g., ns1.squarespace.com, ns2.squarespace.com):
-
Go to the Nameservers tab in your domain management screen.
-
Select Use Custom Nameservers.
-
Enter the nameservers provided by your new platform.
-
Click Save Changes.
⏱️ It may take up to 24–48 hours for DNS propagation to complete globally.
⚠️ Warning: This will move control of DNS management to the new provider. Make sure email records (MX) are set up there before switching.
🧩 Step 4: Option B — Update A and CNAME Records (Keep DNS Here)
If your new provider gave you an IP address or CNAME target:
-
Stay in the DNS Management section of your domain (or use Manage DNS Zone).
-
Find and edit these records:
-
A Record → Enter the new hosting IP address.
-
CNAME Record (www) → Point to the new service (e.g.,
shops.myshopify.comorext-cust.squarespace.com).
-
-
Click Save Changes.
-
Leave existing MX Records intact to avoid email interruptions.
💡 This option is safer if TK Internet Marketing manages your email or other services.
🌎 Step 5: Verify Connection
After saving your updates:
-
Visit https://dnschecker.org to verify your domain points to the correct IP or CNAME.
-
Once propagation completes (usually within a few hours), open your domain in a browser to confirm your new website appears.
🧮 Step 6: Maintain Your Domain Through TK Internet Marketing
Even if your domain now points elsewhere, you’ll still manage renewals, billing, and WHOIS details in your TK Internet Marketing Client Area.
To review or renew your domain:
-
Go to Domains → My Domains → Manage Domain
-
Check Next Due Date and Auto-Renewal Status
